That's the year that the Myians have claimed will end the universe. The Myians have predicted many, MANY astronomical events thousands of years before they happened and did so with stone and blood. So, givin' the benifit of the doubt... 2012 should be the year we abolish clothing.

I have not heard anything about 2012 but i have seen adds on tv for some show called Seatle 2013 or something weird like that

the only big event happening around that time period is the winter Lame-lympics happining here in Vancouver, but i doubt that has anything to do with whatever it is your talking about

Friendly moderator thread merge.

About the world ending in 2012, I don't know much about it, don't really care. If the world ends the world ends, and death sounds pretty exciting to me. But like all good things, I'm willing to wait.

The Mayans have a temple which has a giant calendar on it. The calendar is very similar to ours. It begins at a certain time on one wall and then continues onto the other (the place where it stops is thought to be important, though I can't remember why). The second half of the calendar stops at 2012, where the Mayans predict the world will end.

If I remember correctly, that's how it goes.

*ZIP!* Right ova ya head :3 I'm suggesting that since we're all gonna die, might as well live life like we wanted.

Either way, guarentied that I'll be doing something completely stupid on that year. I really don't care if the world ends or not, and I really don't know.. But a man's gotta have a ritual, and I think years that end in 12 will be mine.

Oh sheesh. It's a myth. The Mayans may have been right a few times but they've been wrong even more times. If they were so good at prophesying why didn't they predict and prevent their demise? It won't end in 2012. Unless Bush is re-elected for a third term after he amends the Constitution. Then we're screwed.

The reason they didn't predict and prevent their demise is because if they predicted it to happen and they stopped it then they didn't predict a damn thing. It's the reason why people who wish they could see the future are so damn stupid in my opinion, if you could see the future and you change it so it turned out differently then you didn't see anything but bullshit, did you?

The Mayan's were smart.

To be entirely honest I really hope I "live" to see the end of the world. I wouldn't mind going through the apocolypse, it sounds exciting as hell. What's waiting for me after death? Wooh, I'm getting giddy just thinking about it! Whether it be bad, good, or nothingness it ought to be different and exciting to boot!

I also gotta agree with that. The end of the world would be quite interesting.

To quote Patton Oswalt: (a semi well known comedian)

"Snap. This is going to be awesome. I'm going to die in the Apocalypse! That is so awesome.

Imagine going to heaven, and asking people why they're there. People would say something like "I fell down the stairs" or "I got too close to the fire". Then it would be your turn, and you would say "I died in the final battle between good and evil". Everyone would be jealous.

This is so awesome."

But then you have to think if you want to be unique, the end of the world will result in the death of every single living person. That's about 3.3 billion people right now. So they can say "I died saving my wife from an armed robber in 1993" and you can say "I died like the other 3 billion new guys."

How boring would that be?

True but you'd be able to tell the exact story you had- how the fire and brimstone narrowly missed you, singing off your eyebrows while you grabbed your family and fled from your quickly disappearing house. Running outside only to be hit with a meteor... or something to that effect.

Still could be fun.

Only reason I'd want the End of the World to happen is so I have an excuse to run around like a jackass BEFORE it happens. Hell, I'd go visit all those old "high school chums" and use my 94 on something other than plinking. And don't gimme any of that Good Christian bullcrap, 'cause you'd do it too >.> If there were no conciquences to your actions, you'd do whatever the hell you wanted.

With that note, It's 5:20. And there ARE conciquences for my actions.

Action: staying up all night

Conciquence: sleeping all day (pissing off fiancee)

There's more than 6.5 billion people alive today. I expect there will be a lot more in 2012
http://www.ibiblio.org/lunarbin/worldpop has a counter.

There's a 1 in 5,560 chance we could get owned by Apophis in 2036 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2004_MN4. Maybe that's what the Mayans predicted but they were a bit off.
